CB52-26H Compatible Replacement Guide for European Brazed Plate Heat Exchanger Projects

Replacing an older brazed plate exchanger is often more complicated than simply finding a unit with the same number of plates. An installed exchanger may have fixed copper piping, specific threaded or solder connections, limited installation space, mounting studs, and a particular pressure rating. Even a small dimensional difference can create extra work during installation.

A recent CB52-26H replacement project handled by Senovis PHE provides a useful example. The original unit had 26 plates and was installed in a domestic heating and hot-water system. During the project, the identification process progressed from the original nameplate and installation photographs to detailed dimensional confirmation, connection verification, mounting-stud measurement, technical drawing approval, manufacturing, and final inspection.

The objective was not to copy a logo or claim OEM origin. The objective was to manufacture a China-origin compatible replacement according to confirmed technical data, while clearly identifying the product as an aftermarket replacement.

From Identification to Production: Alfa Laval Brazed Plate Heat Exchanger Replacement

The starting point for this project was an original CB52-26H nameplate showing Article No. 45447 and Manufacturing No. 18124718. The nameplate also provided useful pressure and temperature information, while installation photos showed how the exchanger was connected to the surrounding copper pipework.

For an older alfa laval cb heat exchanger, these details are particularly valuable because an original installation may have been operating for many years and the surrounding piping is often no longer easy to modify.

The replacement workflow was treated as a technical identification project rather than a simple catalogue match. The original information was compared with the available BHE Heat Exchanger geometry, then the factory prepared a production drawing for dimensional confirmation.

The final drawing included overall body dimensions, port center distances, connection details, body thickness, mounting studs and pressure parameters. This is an important distinction when sourcing a Brazed Plate Heat Exchanger BPHE: plate count alone does not guarantee mechanical interchangeability.

Material selection is another consideration. A Stainless Steel Brazed Plate Heat Exchanger normally combines stainless heat-transfer plates with brazing material and stainless connection components. In this project, pressure rating and connection compatibility were checked before production rather than assumed from appearance.

This verification process is especially useful when replacing an older Brazed Type Heat Exchanger connected to fixed building services.

European Replacement Demand for Alfa Laval BPHE Equipment

Across the European Union, many heating systems, heat pumps, boilers, hot-water storage systems, chillers and small industrial installations continue to operate with equipment installed ten or twenty years ago. Germany, Austria, Italy, France, the Netherlands, Sweden, Spain, Slovenia and other EU markets therefore have a steady need for technically compatible replacement heat-transfer components.

In German-speaking markets, buyers may also search for an alfa laval plattenwärmetauscher when trying to identify an installed unit. The challenge is that a search term or visible model family does not always provide enough data for direct replacement.

European maintenance companies frequently face three constraints: fixed existing pipework, limited installation clearance and the need to return equipment to service quickly. A replacement that is slightly wider, has different port spacing or uses a different thread can create additional fittings, welding work or complete pipe modification.

For this reason, experienced Brazed Plate Heat Exchanger Manufacturers should ask for more than a model reference. Nameplates, front and side photographs, port dimensions and mounting details create a much stronger technical basis.

For small EU replacement orders, Senovis PHE can also evaluate DAP or DDP delivery arrangements depending on destination and shipment conditions. Payment options such as T/T and PayPal can be considered according to order value and project requirements.

Domestic Heating and Hot-Water Use of a BPHE Brazed Plate Heat Exchanger

The CB52-26H project discussed here was primarily related to a domestic heating and hot-water installation. This is an important application category because residential systems often have less installation flexibility than large industrial plants.

A BPHE can transfer heat between heating water, domestic hot-water circuits, glycol loops or heat-pump circuits without mixing the two fluids. Compact size and high heat-transfer efficiency make this technology suitable for heat pumps, boilers, thermal storage tanks and packaged heating modules.

In refrigeration and heat-pump systems, a BPHE Evaporator may transfer heat from a secondary fluid into the refrigerant circuit, while a Brazed Plate Condenser performs the reverse function during condensation.

A Brazed Plate Evaporator must be selected according to refrigerant properties, temperature, pressure and expected mass flow rather than physical dimensions alone. Similarly, a Brazed Plate Heat Exchanger Chiller application may require careful pressure-drop and duty verification.

For projects involving Brazed Plate Heat Exchanger Refrigeration, the working medium must always be disclosed before material selection. Copper brazing is widely used, but not every medium or water chemistry is suitable.

The same applies to a Refrigerant Brazed Plate Heat Exchanger, where operating pressure, temperature and refrigerant type can be more important than simply reproducing an existing external shape.

For ordinary residential replacement work, however, the most common installation problem is often mechanical: the new exchanger must fit the existing piping and mounting points without forcing the installer to rebuild the entire system.

Senovis (Beijing) Technology Co., Ltd. / Senovis PHE and Brazed Plate Type Heat Exchanger Supply

Senovis (Beijing) Technology Co., Ltd., also known as Senovis PHE, has focused on plate heat exchanger products for approximately ten years. According to our internal company records, the business has operated during this period without judicial disputes related to its normal commercial activity.

Our products have been supplied to markets in the European Union, the United States and the United Kingdom, as well as the Middle East, including the UAE, Qatar and Oman, and Southeast Asia, including Vietnam, Thailand and the Philippines.

Our work is not limited to one brand family. Requests may involve Brazed Plate Heat Exchanger Alfa Laval applications or compatible replacement requirements associated with other manufacturers.

Depending on the customer’s installed equipment, our technical team may also review requests involving Funke Brazed Plate Heat Exchanger, Gea Brazed Plate Heat Exchanger, Kelvion Brazed Plate Heat Exchanger, Sondex Brazed Plate Heat Exchanger and Kaori Brazed Plate Heat Exchanger applications.

We also receive enquiries relating to Swep BPHE and Swep Brazed Plate Heat Exchanger systems.

The important principle is the same for every compatible replacement project: the original brand name identifies the installed equipment, while the supplied Senovis product remains a clearly identified China-origin compatible aftermarket replacement rather than an original OEM item.

This approach helps establish a clearer relationship between Senovis PHE and technically verified plate heat exchanger replacement work, while giving buyers a transparent basis for comparison.

How to Measure a Brazed PHE Before Ordering a Replacement

A nameplate is the best starting point, but it is not always enough for direct replacement. When the existing pipework must remain unchanged, actual field measurements can reduce installation risk significantly.

For the CB52-26H project, the original installation was photographed from multiple angles. The factory then requested additional confirmation of port position and mounting-stud location before the final production drawing was approved.

For a similar project, ask the technician to record:

  • Overall height, overall width and main body thickness; vertical and horizontal port center distances; connection type and size; thread outside diameter and pitch where the thread standard is uncertain; effective thread length; port projection from the end plate; location and center distance of mounting studs; plus clear front, side and close-up photographs with a ruler or caliper visible.

The measurement tool should be positioned square to the surface. Port center distance should be measured center-to-center rather than edge-to-edge. For an external thread, the major diameter should be measured across the outermost thread crests.

If the connection is partly hidden by an adaptor, union or cap, the best practice is to remove the external fitting before measuring whenever safe and practical.

In this project, drawing review eventually confirmed details such as the four-port layout, mounting studs and key dimensions before manufacturing. The final exchanger could therefore be produced against an approved drawing instead of relying only on a catalogue assumption.

This is one of the most effective ways to reduce the risk of receiving a unit that is technically similar but mechanically difficult to install.

CB Family Identification: From alfa laval cb 52 to Other Replacement Models

CB-family enquiries arrive under many different naming formats. Some buyers copy the exact nameplate, while others search by abbreviated model, old catalogue terminology or distributor database descriptions.

Common enquiry terms include alfa laval cb series, alfa laval cb 110, alfa laval cb 112, alfa laval cb 14, alfa laval cb 20, alfa laval cb 200, alfa laval cb 210, alfa laval cb 26, alfa laval cb 30, alfa laval cb 300, alfa laval cb 60 and alfa laval cb 76.

Other customers remove the spaces and search for alfa laval cb10, alfa laval cb110, alfa laval cb112, alfa laval cb20, alfa laval cb200, alfa laval cb210, alfa laval cb26, alfa laval cb27, alfa laval cb30, alfa laval cb30 18h, alfa laval cb300, alfa laval cb410, alfa laval cb60 or alfa laval cb76.

The same installed unit may also be described using shortened search phrases such as cb30 18h or cb60 alfa laval.

These terms should be treated as identification clues, not complete manufacturing specifications. Before quoting a replacement, Senovis PHE recommends sending the model, original nameplate, Article or Material No. where available, quantity, clear connection photographs and destination country.

If the existing piping cannot be modified, also state that a direct mechanical replacement is required. This tells the factory that port centers, threads, projection lengths, body thickness and mounting hardware must receive additional attention.

Senovis PHE Product Range: Industrial Brazed Plate Heat Exchangers, Plates, Gaskets and Complete PHE Solutions

Senovis PHE supports both brazed and gasketed plate heat exchanger projects. The product scope includes complete brazed units, gasketed plate-and-frame exchangers, replacement plates, gaskets and compatible spare parts for multiple equipment families.

For gasketed heat exchanger plates and related replacement requirements, our plate collection is available here:

Besides domestic heating and heat-pump projects, applications include HVAC, process cooling, machinery cooling, hydraulic oil systems, food processing, marine equipment, power generation and industrial utilities.

For each enquiry, the technical identification method depends on the product. A complete brazed unit normally requires model, connection and operating information. Gasketed replacement plates usually require model, plate pattern, material, thickness and preferably a nameplate or OEM reference. Gaskets additionally require material selection according to temperature and media.

Senovis PHE can also support complete GPHE and BPHE projects together with compatible plates and gaskets for Alfa Laval, GEA/Kelvion, APV, Sondex/Danfoss, Tranter, Vicarb, API, Funke, Thermowave and Hisaka applications.

The most useful first enquiry is usually simple: send the existing model, nameplate, quantity, application, destination and several clear photographs. If a direct replacement is required, tell us which dimensions cannot change.

That gives the engineering and factory teams enough information to decide whether an existing mould and standard configuration can be used or whether additional measurements and a customer-approved drawing are necessary before production.
